Hair Matters

I apologize for the cloudy photo today but I still had to share her loveliness. This is a little fairy that I made for my daughter's teacher's little girl. I didn't have my camera with me to take a proper picture of her so I snapped one with my iphone. As you know I love detail, especially the hair. This time I wanted to do something different but dramatic, so I thought how pretty would it be to make a swiss miss bun?! I was so happy with how it turned out that I will be doing more fun updo's for the fairies for sure.

Havana's teacher told me the next day that her little girl was so enthralled with her hair. She was telling her mom that this hair looked really real, not like Barbie....lol! Isn't that sweet? I love how everyone, adults and children react to these little treasures.

Who Said Boys Can't Be Fairies....Hee Hee

Hello! Sorry for not posting lately. I'm still busy getting ready for my trip. It's funny, the last week or so people have said "Oh, you're probably busy packing" but actually the packing really doesn't take much time at all. It's the million little, annoying errands you have to do before you can actually leave. I swear, I had a list as long as Santa's! It's only today that I finally feel I can relax and finish packing and do my nails for goodness sake! Haha. Us girls HAVE to have our nails done before a trip. I have also be giving myself my own fashion show. I am determined to look deep within my wardrobe and mix things up a bit. It was so much fun! I know I have a lot of nice stuff, but wooeee....I have a pretty kick ass wardrobe....really fun too. If you're ever feeling like your wardrobe is a bit stale these days, I highly encourage you to take a few days and literally try EVERYTHING on and pair it with shoes or other pieces you haven't ever paired them with before. You'll be surprised!! ;)

Well on to fairy business. Isn't this boy fairy handsome? xo

Rockin Red

It's been a couple of days since I last posted but I have a good excuse. I am headed down to Santiago de Chile for three months next Thursday. I will be bringing all my fairy supplies with me of course and I'm hoping to be inspired by the rich Chilean culture.
I am busy packing but I have a little fairy project I am working on for my best friend's birthday. I hope to have it finished for her before I leave and hope to be able to post it here so you can see.

Little Blond Wood Sprite

One of the things that most people love about these little fairies is the hair. I think the little details I put into the hairstyles give them more life. I love all the different colors too. I have lots of different textured wools that are brown and blond and just recently expanded my colors to a really pretty red and grey. So I'll be making some lovely red headed fairies and grandma fairies soon. Should be fun!!

Personalized Fairy!!!

This Christmas I sent my little niece Ryan a little bag of fairies. My sister told me she absolutely loved them. She said that when Ryan plays with them or other toys she is always asking, "Mommy which one is me? Which one is you? Which one is daddy?"...etc. I thought it was so neat to see her use her imagination and to personalize her dolls. I thought it was the sweetest thing ever and how play time is that much more meaningful to her.

And so, I thought (duh) why don't I make a fairy that looks like her!! So I did! So here is the unveiling of my very first personalized fairy. I think she looks insanely cute with the little bob and bangs. I will make a mommy and daddy....and new baby fairy soon.

Cottage Dreaming

Is it winter or spring?

Good Monday morning to everyone! It is pouring rain outside today.....you'd think it was spring here in Toronto.
I remember two years ago we had two feet of snow in the city. I'm not really complaining though.....just a real reminder
that the earths hormones are changing.....no longer moody when we expect.

I do long for summer. Summer here in in Canada is absolutely beautiful. Up in cottage country you are able to really relax and
unwind. I love it so much. Last summer I went up for three weeks with my daughter and had so much fun taking walks through the forest, swimming in the lake, canoeing, baking pies from scratch, making fairies, roasting marshmallows on the bonfire, dancing all day in the cottage when the bugs were too bad outside.

It was so amazing to be up there making fairies. The whole island is filled with little nooks where you could imagine little fairies might live. Broken tree stumps over grown with green moss, patches and patches of Ontario blueberries, tiny little wildflowers....it was an endless world of fairy possibilities. As I made the fairies (maybe two or three a day) I put them on the window sill. It was so fun to see what fairy would be created that day as one by one the fairy clan grew. We believed that as we drew the curtains at night, all the fairies would dance and play with the fireflies. So magical! No doubt I'm looking forward to new adventures this year!

Lily Pad Fairy

Isn't she so sweet? Most of the fairies take me about 2 hours but this one took a bit longer. I wasn't exactly sure what she was going to look like when I started, I just knew I wanted her to have a big skirt. Then one thing led to another and it was clear she was to be the Lily Pad Fairy. In case anyone was wondering how small these little fairies are, they are about 3 1/2" tall. They are all made from craft pipe cleaner, colored floss, 100% hand dyed wool felt and roving wool that I buy at Lettuce Knit located in Kensington Market....and of course acorn caps. I love love love that little store!

Hello-Bonjour-Hola my Waldorf friends!

Hello Everyone!
I am proud be a new member of the blogging community with The Waldorfista. I am a big believer in letting our mind, body and soul lead us to our innate talents and abilities. I love all things handmade using natural elements of the earth. The Waldorf education was founded by Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner. This nonconventional education nurtures the creative spirit within each of us. I am 33 years old and still love creating and making things as if I were still a little girl. I think it is essential for children and adults to use their imaginations to create worlds we could only dream of and to cultivate the artists within. I would like to use this blog to showcase my whimsical Waldorf inspired fairies and enchanted accoutrements. I would also like to use this blog to create a dialog about what the Waldorf education is all about and why some parents choose Waldorf schools over conventional schools. I encourage readers who have first hand experience to share their stories with me. I would absolutely love to hear what kind of impact it has had on you and your children.
